Gdansk may not be the largest city in Poland (it’s the 6th largest), but with its nearly 500,000 residents, it would still be the second-largest city in Norway. It’s, therefore, a substantial city by Norwegian standards. Along with being a big city comes excellent shopping opportunities, and Gdansk is no exception. Here, you can find everything from charming boutique shops specializing in a single product to large shopping centers with 200+ stores.
Old Town / Dlugi Targ
In the Old Town and along the pedestrian street, you’ll find shops everywhere. Most of them are souvenir shops selling everything from “I love Gdansk” t-shirts to snow globes and other typical souvenirs. You’ll also come across several shops specializing in crystal, which Gdansk is known for. While this may not be the most exciting shopping area, you’re likely to stroll up and down this street multiple times, so it’s worth popping into a few of the shops while you’re here. There’s always something quirky to buy and take home.
Forum Gdansk
This relatively new (opened in 2018) and modern shopping center is also the largest in the center of Gdansk and is likely where you’ll end up. It’s almost impossible to miss, as it’s located right at the top of the Old Town. Here, you’ll find nearly 200 stores offering everything from clothing to electronics and food. You’ll come across well-known chains like Zara and H&M as well as lesser-known Polish favorites. The center also includes a cinema, a play area, and a food court, so you’ll have everything you need in one place.
Madison
A bit smaller but cozy and modern, Madison is located slightly outside the city center. However, it’s just a short taxi ride away, and you can also walk or rent an electric scooter to get there. The journey to and from Madison takes you through charming streets and parks, making it worth the trip for some sightseeing.
Galeria Baltycka
Alongside Forum, this is one of the largest shopping centers in Gdansk. However, it’s not as popular among tourists because Forum is more convenient. Galeria Baltycka has around 200 stores, and the selection is quite similar to Forum’s, with everything from H&M and Converse to local Polish chains.
Designer Outlet Gdansk
As the name suggests, this is an outlet shopping destination. It’s the largest outlet in the Gdansk area, featuring over 100 different brands. Here, you can find discounted items from Nike, New Balance, Calvin Klein, Pepe Jeans, Levi’s, and Guess, among others. Surprisingly, for an outlet, it’s a rather stylish place, with a design that somewhat resembles an old Norwegian fishing village. They even boast a 24-meter tall lighthouse, despite being well inland.
Riviera
If you’re willing to take a taxi or train to get to the largest shopping center in the area, Riviera is worth a visit. This is a massive and modern shopping center with around 250 stores. You’ll find all the brands you’d expect here, as well as the region’s largest 3D cinema if that’s more to your liking.
